Simulation · no real chain dataWhat you see follows the documented tau-testnet protocol but is generated in your browser. To read a real node, switch to Live node and connect your own node. Experimental community project, no claim of accuracy.
Why this is not a normal blockchain
On other chains, code is law. On Tau, the agreement is law: users write the rules in logic, every rule is checked before it can apply, and nothing changes without the validators’ consent. There is no admin key.
Checked before it appliesA proposed rule is compiled on its own first. If it does not hold, it never enters the chain.see it: Rule changes · “compiled in isolation ✓”
No admin keyNobody can change the rules alone. A change needs the validators’ agreement and takes effect at a later block.see it: Validators · “agreement needed”
Enforced against the key holderYour rule binds your account, not your device. A stolen key still obeys your limits.see it: Transactions · red “✕ refused”
Money with termsA transfer can be returnable until a release point, locked until a time, or co-signed above an amount.see it: Personal money rules

On Tau a rule change is a transaction: checked, agreed by quorum and live a few blocks later. No fork, no upgrade, no admin.

v11 · 26 Oct 2026Renamed to “Tau HUD”. Disclaimer added (experimental, no claim of accuracy, no advice). Tau step boxes given room. Any clipped text (step notes, hashes, rule names, transaction rows) shows in full as an overlay on hover, or on tap on phones. “How a rule changes” now encodes time as length (Few: compare on one scale): the Other-chains track spans the whole row with its slow, fragmenting steps (months of debate, a fork that can split the chain, manual upgrades), the Tau track is a short green segment followed by “done.”
v10.1 · 26 Oct 2026QR code next to the donation address (scan to donate). No more hexagons: the core is built from rings and the rule-holding accounts are ringed dots. “How a rule changes” laid out on one shared grid: both rows use the same four columns, each step has a one-line note, the clock sits with the row label, and the Tau row shows the live vote count and activation block.
v10 · 26 Oct 2026The contrast is now visual, not just verbal: “How a rule changes” strip in the Rule changes panel (other chains: propose, months of debate, vote, hard fork, everyone upgrades; Tau: propose, checked, agreed, active, lit live from the current proposal), and in the core every sealed block draws the agreement of all validators and rule-holding accounts flowing into it (“the agreed rules of everyone → block”).
v9.1 · 26 Oct 2026Simple/Technical switch moved to the right side of the header, under the status chips.
v9 · 26 Oct 2026Calmer: blocks every ~8 s. A block’s details now open inline under the block cards instead of a pop-up (the newest block is shown until you pick one). New always-visible panel “Rules in force now” on the right; the node log moved below it and only shows in the Technical view. Block-card footer no longer wraps.
v8 · 26 Oct 2026From a simulated study with 100 reader personas: simulation is now unmissable (banner, watermark in the core, SIM tag on every block card), a Simple/Technical switch with plain-language stream labels, a 5-step tour that follows one rule from proposal to active, clickable blocks with a full detail view (rules in force and agreed at that block), a “Chain state” view of every rule in force right now, no more clipped values, a compact core on laptops, live-node fields only in Live mode with a checklist on failure, a “What is Tau?” link, symbols per transaction type, AGRS amounts, and a rain switch.
v7 · 26 Oct 2026Wording and hierarchy pass guided by the community’s design library (Made to Stick, Information Dashboard Design, Refactoring UI, Don’t Make Me Think, Albers): one core sentence up top, plain-language panel titles, every number with its context (“7 of 9 needed”), refusals marked ✕ as well as red, stream codes moved into the hover notes, quieter glyph rain.
v6 · 26 Oct 2026Monochrome like the current tau.net: black, white, greys and hairlines, with phosphor green as the only accent, where data is live or true.
v5 · 26 Oct 2026Rebrand: Tau’s near-black and blue-to-violet gradient for structure, phosphor green reserved for data and truth, champagne for agreement. Matrix glyph rain behind the deck, the thesis decodes on load, hairline glass panels, Sora + JetBrains Mono. AGRS donation address under About.
v4 · 26 Oct 2026Everything on one screen: a 4×2 command grid with a thesis line for newcomers, feedback and about moved into pop-ups.
v3 · 26 Oct 2026Info icons with explanations on every panel. Tau principles strip. Proposals show the isolated compile check and can be refused for contradicting the live spec; a quorum change shows a rule amending its own amendment rule; rule offers show the conflict report. Links to the Tau papers.
v2 · 26 Oct 2026Focus on what makes Tau different: rule changes by validator agreement, rule sharing between accounts, personal Tau policies and the composite spec. Feedback inbox, unofficial-project notice, this update log.
v1 · 26 Oct 2026First HUD: Tau consensus engine, validator core, transaction stream, block ribbon, governance, live-node mode.

About this page
Unofficial community projectBuilt by Tau community members. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or maintained by IDNI or the Tau team. Data in simulation mode is generated in your browser and is not the real chain.
Experimental · no claim of accuracy
Tau HUD is an experimental community approach to visualising the Tau testnet. We do not claim that the information shown is accurate, complete or current, in simulation or live mode. It is not official information, not financial advice and not technical advice. Check anything that matters against the tau-testnet repository and your own node.
Simulation vs. live node
The simulation follows the documented protocol of tau-testnet: validators vote on rule changes, accounts write and share their own Tau rules, every block is judged by Tau. It is a model, not the real chain.
Live mode speaks the node's raw WebSocket protocol (getblocks, getmempool, getgovernance). The public testnet bootnode only exposes P2P, so run your own read node (Docker, see the README), allow this page's origin with TAU_WS_ALLOWED_ORIGINS, then switch to Live node.
